BoardCAD is an easy to use CAD-program that allows you to quickly design your own surfboards.

History

The BoardCAD project started already in 2000 by Jonas Hörnstein and Ola Helenius and a demo version was released in 2002 under the name SurfCAD. In this early version you could design the board in 3D but you were not allowed to print or even save the designs. After that nothing really happened until 2006 when we decided to take up the development again. A complete version of the original program was now released. We now used the name BoardCAD instead of SurfCAD since we wanted to stress the ambition to make a program that is suitable for all types of boards, not only surfboards (the fact that the name surfcad was already in use for another program of course also played a role in the decision). A number of new functions were added to the original program as the management of several boards at the same time, visualization of measured help points from existing boards, a separate tail designer, template printing, and most importantly the possibility to open and save boards.

In 2007 BoardCAD was released as open source and the a completely new user interface was developed.
